NIOB canvasses capacity building in construction industry

The Nigerian Institute of Building has said there is a need for professionals in the built environment to focus on capacity building and development collaborations in the industry.
The institute said this would provide opportunities for a review of global best practices that would help the industry to grow.
It added that the need for this would form the basis of its 44th Annual General Meeting later this month, with the theme, ‘Construction industry development collaboration, innovations and capacity building’.
The President, NIOB, Mr. Tunde Lasabi, said in a statement, “This is a deliberate challenge, which comes with opportunities to explore the potential of research, collaborations, innovations and professionalism towards positive growth and national development of the building industry.
“As builders, our foremost concern is that the construction of buildings will not be left in the hands of quacks but that builders in Nigeria will continue to play their role effectively as the critical link in production management.”
Lasabi said builders were more apt in imbibing professional technicalities in order to forge competences and interface with other building industry practitioners in joint efforts to harness resources for sustainable development.
He said, “The professional builder must master the science, management and technology of building practice to sufficiently create innovations and adoption of world best practices as a means of relevance and developmental progress.
“Due to modern constructional trends, large scale projects and professional complexity, enormous demands are thus required for higher collaborative synergy and proactive multi-facet tasking across defined professional roles and responsibilities rather than divisive rivalry and unneeded competition.”
