The
governorship ambitions of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff,
General Azubuike Ihejirika (retd); and a party stalwart, Dr. Uche Ogah –
both from Abia-North senatorial district, may have run into troubled
waters as the Abia State chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party,
the platform on which they want to realise their ambitions have zoned
the governorship ticket to Abia-South senatorial district.
This was the outcome of the party’s
caucus meeting chaired by Chief Allen Nwachukwu, which held on at the
Government House, Umuahia.
While addressing journalists at the end
of the meeting attended by some National Assembly members and chiefs of
the party, Nwachukwu said the decision was unanimous and based on equity
and fairness as the zone had yet to produce the governor of the state.
When asked what his advice was for
aspirants who are not from Abia-South senatorial district, Nwachukwu
said that “they should wait for their own turn,” adding that the
decision was irreversible.
He said, “Let them wait for their own turn, the PDP is known for zoning from national to the ward levels.”
